You can still recover registry files from a Shadow Copy.

NOTE - Looks like since Windows 10 version 1803, Microsoft are no longer creating a backup in Regback.
The laptop rebooted with no bootrec tweaking needed. Then copy the replacement files from the Regback subfolder where there is a recent backup. In the end the fix was from the command prompt option, but we had to go into C:\Windows\System32\Config and rename the registry files (Default, Sam, Security, Software, System), eg. The error reported was Total identified Windows Installations: 0 I'm using UEFI and can boot into windows fine, but bootrec still only shows 0 windows installations. Then fix the boot table using the bootrec command - often a chkdsk followed by deleting/renaming the existing Boot folder, then running bootrec /fixmbr, then bootrec /fixboot, and bootrec /rebuildbcd, will do the job. bootrec /scanos and /rebuildbcd finds 0 windows installations normal From what I've gathered by searching online, it's quite not normal, but it also seems to be only for legacy BIOS. What if running the command bootrec /fixboot. From there you can fix the drive letter order if its got changed, remove unnecesary drive letters. Bootrec (bootrec.exe) utility is for reviving a failed, not working or not responding operating system in Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE). It seems like everything is there.The usual fix under those circumstances is to go into advanced options, choose command prompt, then load Diskpart. I can navigate into my files via CMD on the boot USB. Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 6. Result: After a minute or two of scans and replacing files and such, I get : Readable file record segment 9 is not writeable. Result: Completes successfully bootrec.exe /fixboot If you receive the Total identified Windows installations: 0 message instead of Total identified Windows installations: 1 message, you need to run a few more commands to fix this issue and continue to rebuild BCD. Result: yields 0 installations found bootrec.exe /fixmbr This result most likely means that Windows installation data in the BCD store exists but bootrec couldnt find any additional. I can't refresh/repair the PC because my drive is 'locked' Startup repair doesn't work, no explanation. I have a Repair USB and have tried rebuilding the BCD. after rebooting, Automatic Repair runs and fails. The next morning I boot it up and get to the login screen and my keyboard and mouse would not work. I really dont know what went wrong, I am just pretty. After trying to bootrec/rebuildbcd I find that there are Total identified Windows installations: 0 Also I will get either a Bad system config info blue screen. My main system (Windows 10) went down during a power outage from bad weather. Total identified Windows installations: 0 BootRec /RebuildBcd - I get the message Total identified Windows installations: 0.
